  1. review and analyze the fall 2005 Fitnessgrams* data to determine the effect of the interventions on selected students in the Spring of 2005

    • this will be shown on Jan 06 report cards

  2. Continue to develop interventions during the school year that are aligned with student performance on the Fitnessgram.

    • Norwich student working on a Phd will be helping to intervene with students who scored 0 or 1 to help them develop a way to increase their activity.

  3. Develop a 2006-2007 implementation plan for the “know Your Body” curriculum guide

    • Health Education Committee will be doing this under direction of Kathy Lord

  4. Develop a process for reporting to the community on the health status of students
    working on improving website.
    Website to add links to Health programs, before and after school
    Website links to health material in library
    Promote school health in all U61 schools so we can report in annual bulletin

  5. Develop and pilot a by-student wellness report card for physical education
    Paul Moccia, grades 6-8, identifying specific skills

*Fitnessgram definition: created by The Cooper Institute in 1980s to measure fitness levels based on what is optimal for good health. It was developed to provide physical educators with a tool that would facilitate communicating fitness testing results to student and parent. The assessments measures three components: aerobic capacity, body composition and muscular strength, endurance and flexibility

    • focusing on personal goals of flexibility, balance, and coordination (compete against self), e.g. yoga, snow shoeing
  • Expansion of wellness staff program with lifetime sports activities
    • e.g. snow shoeing, biking, yoga –discount rates for teachers.
  • Peer Mediation: increase parent and staff awareness of program and skills.
    • Collect data on past years, track usage for comparison. Track return candidates and number of referrals.
  • FT health coordinator – use consultant until can afford
  • Raise awareness of environmental health based on healthful consumer choices.
