TITLE: Illness/Accident
Responsibilities of School Nurses CODE: JLCF
Illness of Pupils and Personnel
Standard
School nurses are authorized to review the
causes of illness of pupils and personnel and to make recommendations for
the protection and general welfare of the school population.
Procedures
-
School nurses will be notified by Principals, teachers, or Guidance
Counselors when a pupil or employee is, might be, or has been absent
from school for at least five consecutive days.

The nurse will review the cause of illness and make recommendations
regarding the students' continued absences or return to school.

The nurse will report his/her recommendations to the Principal or
Guidance Counselor for implementation.
Accident Reports
Standard
It will be the responsibility of the school
nurse to file a report for each accident occurring in a school or on
school grounds under his/her jurisdiction.
Procedures

The Principal will prepare and distribute to nurses, teachers and other
involved personnel, copies of the Accident Report form.

The Principal will:
-
notify the Superintendent and School Board
if it is likely that an insurance liability is involved.

analyze the forms to ascertain the
patterns of accidents and where possible to alleviate causes of
accidents.

notify the Superintendent and School Board
in cases of serious injury or death.
