Examinations of Students CODE: JLCA
Vision and Hearing Tests
Standard
The school system will administer vision
tests to all pupils in grades K, 1, 3, 5 and 7 and hearing tests to all
pupils in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7. Both hearing and vision tests will
be administered to every incoming transfer student.
Procedures

School nurse(s) will:
-
a. see that appropriate tests are
administered b. record the test results c. notify the parent in case
of defective hearing or vision d. provide the information required to
complete the annual statistical report to the Superintendent of
Schools

School nurse(s) may use the services of other persons or volunteers in
the organizing and administering of the tests and in the clerical work
involved. Notification of parents in case of defective pupil hearing or
vision may be done only by school personnel.

School nurse(s) may, if time permits, administer vision and hearing
tests at other grade levels.

No child, whose parents object, will be obliged to submit to either
test, provided the objection is stated in writing and signed by the
parent.

The school nurse(s) will:

a. test all pupils enrolled in the
appropriate grade b. test any pupil when so requested by the
Principal, upon the recommendation of the educational staff.

The superintendent of school is required to report results of the
hearing and vision tests to the commissioner of education.
