TITLE: Student Publications     CODE: JICE

Pupil Publications

Student publications are important elements of the instructional program and contribute directly to the accomplishment of the school’s goals. The Board supports the development of student-produced school newspapers, year books, and other publications.

The Board recognizes the students’ desire for freedom of expression. Freedom of expression in our schools will be interpreted as including, and not being contrary to:

  • development of student responsibility in distinguishing between freedom and license.
  • care for the development of skills of written expression among students.

Students may express concerns and share information through print or electronic publications. Such student publications must adhere to all reasonable and acceptable rules of sound journalistic practice.

Student publications may take such print forms as a school paper, a pupil handbook, various literary or other specialized magazines, and other tracts, leaflets, or handbills, or electronic forms such as web sites, postings to listservs, e-mail, video, film, or multimedia presentations.

Any publications to be broadcast, posted, or printed and distributed within the school or through the school to parents or community must have prior approval of the principal.
