Barre Town Supervisory District Policy Manual

TITLE: Student Absences and Excuses     CODE: JH

Absences

Standard

The Barre Town School District will maintain a register in which the absence, tardiness, attendance, suspensions, expulsions, transfer, and termination of all pupils who enroll in the school is recorded.

Regular and punctual patterns of attendance will be expected of each student enrolled at Barre Town.

The full value of a student’s education is jeopardized when a student misses an instructional day. Parents should carefully consider the negative effects that absence from school may have on their children’s total educational progress. In cases of extended absences, the school nurse may contact the home to obtain information on the cause of the long absence.

Any student who is excessively absent will be subject to an administrative review by the principal before the student can be considered for promotion regardless of grades. Excessive absenteeism may also be referred to the Barre Town truant officer whose authority is outlined Vermont Statutes Title 16 1126-1127.

The excused absence procedure is outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook.
