Barre Town Supervisory District Policy Manual TITLE: Non-Enrolled Resident Student Policy CODE: JFABDE Participation of non-enrolled resident students in school activities or programs. The Barre Town School Board recognizes and respects the fact that parents make choices for their children regarding how children should be educated. Such choices may include home-schooling or attendance at a private school. Students not enrolled at Barre Town Middle Elementary School but who are residents of Barre Town may, in some instances, benefit by the resources of the Barre Town Middle Elementary School. By this policy, it is the Board's intent, to the extent possible, for the benefit of students whose parents have chosen either home-schooling or attendance at a private school, to make some of the resources of the school available. Therefore, within the limitations of enrollment and costs, non-enrolled resident students will be allowed to participate in certain extra-curricular activities, classes and/or to make use of the school's library and computer laboratory. Enrollment in selective classes will be possible so long as the Board's goals for teacher-pupil ratio are not exceeded. Participation in extra-curricular activities, with the exception of interscholastic sports which is governed by the Vermont Principal's Association, will be permitted at the discretion of the principal or appropriate administrator. In all cases, whether for participation in classes or extra-curricular activities, the non-enrolled resident student wishing to enroll must make a commitment to participate at the same level as regularly enrolled Barre Town students. In all cases, the administration will have the discretion of limiting participation of non-enrolled resident students for disciplinary or attendance reasons. Non-enrolled resident students must apply and be accepted for participation in Barre Town Middle Elementary School activities, classes, or use of school resources. Date Adopted: 6/4/97
