TITLE: School Closings and Cancellations   CODE: EBCE

 

The Superintendent or his/her designee may order the closing of any and all schools whose operation on a short-term basis would pose a serious threat to students or staff. Such emergencies may be caused by weather conditions, equipment breakdown, bomb threats, or health problems. The Superintendent will also have the authority to delay school opening or dismiss early due to inclement weather or other emergencies. In all cases, notification will be given to staff and the public according to a predetermined plan developed by the Superintendent.

TITLE: School Closings and Cancellations CODE: EBCE-R

 

When the decision is made to close the school, that information will be disseminated to:

 

1. Vermont Association of Broadcasters School Closing Network and WPTZ/WNNE Network.

2. The Principal who is to notify faculty and pupils

3. Directors of buildings and grounds and food service divisions who will notify their staffs

4. School nurses

5. The School Board Chairperson

 

Notification will be given to the staff through a system worked out by the Principals.

The Principal or designee will notify activity sponsors in the event that it is necessary to cancel scheduled activities.

 

In the event of an early school closing, the administration and members of the faculty are to remain on duty until all pupils have left the building. Bus pupils must be supervised until they board their buses.
