Barre Town Supervisory District Policy Manual

TITLE: Grants    CODE: DD

Purpose: In order to offer the best educational opportunities possible for children of the district, the school board and staff will seek as many sources of revenue as possible to supplement the funds provided through local taxation and the basic aid provided by the state.

Stipulations: The assignment of grant administration to a school administrator, without a job description amendment approved by the superintendent, must be made in the context of the school administrator’s other responsibilities.

Procedure:

  1. School administrators will be notified of the developing school-based, competitive grant and approve the initial grant being sought and the information to be gathered
  2. To ensure coordination, avoid confusion in developing proposals, and reflect on the future effects on the school budget, grants will be reviewed and approved by the superintendent prior to being submitted.
  3. All grants will be reviewed by board committees as deemed appropriate by the superintendent.
  4. The Superintendent shall bring the grants and supporting documentation to the Board for the purpose of acceptance or declining acceptance of the grant. Board approval may be sought either: a) prior to application for the grant; or b) after the grant has been awarded. Under no circumstances will a grant be accepted by the Superintendent or any other employee of the school without Board approval. Grants automatically renewed annually are not subject to board approval.

Grant Review Criteria: The review of grants will include, but not be limited to,

  • Hours involved in grant preparation
  • The matching or sustaining funds required
  • Reporting requirements
  • Impact of the grant on the school’s staff in terms of time involvement, the sustainability of the grant’s activities, and impact on our current program
  • Goodness-of-fit with the directions and priorities set for the school.
