Barre Town Supervisory District Policy Manual

TITLE: Foundations & Basic Commitments  CODE: AD

FOREWORD

The public school of Barre Town belongs to and is supported by the residents of this town. The school is conducted in the public interest by the Board of School Directors, a representative body chosen by the electorate and responsible to them for the proper operation of their school.

It is the first obligation of the Board to ascertain and interpret the needs, objectives, values and ideals of the people of the community with regard to the education of their children and to see that these are translated into actual practice, so long as they are consistent with the Constitution of the State of Vermont, the statutes of the state and the decisions of the State Board of Education, and comply with appropriate Federal laws and regulations.

It is the duty of the Board to establish the Board Policies for the operation of the school and to charge the Superintendent of Schools to implement these policies in viable form and to put them into execution.

The statements of policy are necessarily given in general terms. In certain instances, regulations are established to give direction to policy.

Both the statement of policy and regulations and procedures should be reexamined frequently and, when public interest or other conditions require, should be amended to meet current situations.

Any policy or regulations that may be or may become in conflict with Vermont State Statutes will not preclude said statute and will be amended to comply with law.
