1. Call to Order The Chair, Brenda Buzzell, called the Wednesday, May 4, 2011 meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., which was held in the Barre Town Middle and Elementary School Library, 70 Websterville Road, Barre Town, VT. A flag salute followed. 2. Visitors and Communications Mrs. Buzzell extended a happy Teacher Appreciation Week to the BTMES teaching staff.
Mrs. Barnard, Mrs. Sulek and Ms. Chapp appeared before the Board, to briefly discuss the school’s new Crops by Kids Community Garden. Mrs. Barnard introduced Norwich graduate, architect Joel Goon. Mr. Goon provided a PowerPoint slide presentation describing the terraced, raised bed garden, which would include pergolas, trellises, outdoor classroom space, and hopefully a solar oven, eventually. Mrs. Barnard announced that a work day was scheduled for Saturday, May 14th beginning at 10:00 a.m. to start work on the new garden, which they reported was being supported through a number of fund raisers, two grants, Town support, community donations, and volunteers. Mrs. Barnard also thanked the Barre Technical Center SHS pre-tech outreach students, and instructor Paul Parsons, for their help. 3. Consent Agenda
On a motion by Mr. Tewksbury seconded by Ms. Moore, the Board unanimously voted to approve the minutes of April 27, 2011 Regular Board Meeting, as submitted. 4. Old Business None 5. New Business
Along with the Board, Dr. Bacon reviewed the list of resignations to date, which included:
Ms. Worth identified three newly received resignations, Mr. Lamb, Ms. Ferland, and Ms. Clark, not previously addressed by the Board. She also briefly reviewed the career details for those teachers. On a motion by Mr. Tewksbury seconded by Ms. Moore, the Board unanimously voted, with regret and best wishes, to accept the resignations of Mr. Lamb, Ms. Ferland and Ms. Clark, effective June 30, 2011, as discussed. 6. Administrative Reports to the Board
Dr. Bacon provided an oral report, including notice that five to seven candidates had been selected by the review committee for co-principal position interviews. He advised that Board members interested in attending would be welcomed at the Tuesday, May 10th interviews.
Ms. Worth and Mr. Crowley provided current and upcoming events information. For additional information on these and other topics, visit www.btmes.org. Ms. Worth updated the Board on upcoming AYP corrective action meetings to audit the school’s progress. Mr. Crowley provided current enrollment data, which revealed a decline of two students from the August 2010 count to a new total of 814 K-8 students.

7. Other Business
On a motion by Mr. Tewksbury seconded by Ms. Moore, the Board unanimously voted to approve the warrants, as submitted. 8. Future Agenda Items Mrs. Buzzell asked Board members to contact her with items of interest. 9. Executive Session
At 7:04 p.m. on a motion by Ms. Moore seconded by Mr. Paterson, the Board unanimously voted to enter into executive session, pursuant to Title 1 § 313 to discuss a negotiations and a personnel matter. Dr. Bacon was invited into the executive session. Mr. Kirkland left the meeting during the executive session. At 8:15 p.m. the Board exited executive session. 10. Next Meeting Dates Meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of the month, in the school library, unless otherwise noted. The next Barre Town School Board meeting dates are:
